Im new to starbound, and i was wondering something. Can you do multiplayer? I felt lonely.anyways i created a new character and i did the graduation thingy. Then im in my ship and beamed down a few times and died. Then i noticed something. There is a person and a plus icon below my icon for the player on the top left. 18 October Hey, everyone! Things are busy here as we’re still hard at work on the 1.4 update.

A number of players have been encountering a crash bug when switching between weapons of the same type, so we decided to address that with a hotfix update rather than waiting for the next patch. While we’re at it, though, we figured we’d throw in one more useful feature: category tags for Steam Workshop mods! The mod uploader tool now allows you to select one or more tags for your mod, and these can be used to filter searches in the Workshop.

Hopefully this will make it a bit easier to sort through the amazing variety of available mods! On the development side of things, we’ve been focusing on exciting events for you to encounter in pursuit of your bounty targets. You didn’t think it was going to be simple, did you? In this example, your investigation is stymied by a code-locked door with your target tantalizingly out of reach. You’ll need to use clever social engineering to obtain the code from an unwary underling in order to progress. We’re very excited about the procedural possibilities for this patch, and hope you are too. I suggested this idea like two years ago on this very sub. Basically in multiplayer, you know how you'd have to go to each-other's ships in order to actually interact with them? How about we have a mode, a server option, a whatever.

Where you and your friends would be in the same ship (with equal ship rights), with the same quests, same tech, same everything. I hate the current system as there is no actual co-operation with friends. You literally only see each-other while you're raiding a planet together, and even then you're probably splitting up to cover ground faster.

Right now you can kind of do this manually if both you and your friends choose which ship to represent as the one your 'using' and ignore the others except for any required upgrades. But I see exactly what your saying and it would be a nice feature to have to help simplify things across multiple players. The mission requirements could also be automatically set higher depending on the number of players, but still be less than the requirements for each players mission requirements individually. Some quests could be crew-wide, and would be given and accomplished by everyone at the same time irregardless of who actually completed it.

Then there could be player specific quests where it's only or that player to accomplish unless they talk to another player and can choose to cooperate on it and share the rewards. Well, you can do your quests together. Especially the big missions where you take on major bosses. When I play with my boyfriend, the time I spend on my ship is really just sorting out my inventory since I loot everything I find on a planet. Not to mention colonizing my ship and decorating it to attract rarer NPCs is basically how I play the game.

A multi-player group ship doesn't provide any benefits to me. I think part of the problem with the 'no cooperation' thing is just that Starbound is a sandbox game and a lot of the stuff doesn't necessarily require two people to begin with. If you're not doing one of the big quests with major bosses, it's fetch quests with instructions to hand one NPC a letter from a different NPC, or give someone a wooden table. I mostly prefer group work when going through dungeons and the like.

It has a phrase that applies right here. I'm amused that you honestly think that this specific feature, which very few have asked for, should be the default to boot. While the 'one questline' part of your grievance is at least a technical possibility (we already have instanced quest zones after all) and a reasonable request, sharing a ship isn't; ask modders, the game is hard-coded to one character per ship because that's how individual player data is stored.

You want the game's core code restructured so you can potentally spend 100% of the time with friends instead of any percentage up to 95%? Additionally, you seem to forget that most people can't all play at the same times. What if someone can't play for a week due to whatever reason? What's the other person supposed to do? Your suggestion carries an implication that characters can't be used for both singleplayer and multiplayer anymore. There's a reason your suggestion has been ignored - almost nobody else agrees with the premise of it.

Probably just the fact that you want it to be the default alone puts people off. Oh sorry I didn't mean to say it like that. I meant that instead of having to play co-op with the current ship warping and party system, this is how it should be played. Looking back I did make it a bit too vague there. How about we have a mode, a server option, a whateve This here says I feel like it should be an option, a server option would probably be most suited. With this option enabled, one ship would be saved for the whole server. Anyone who joins has their ship defaulted to it, returning to single player would put you back into what ever ship you had before hand (the.shipworld file saved there).

Could be tied in with server accounts or something, I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong though, I don't want this to be default. Sorry for making it seem that way, I've never been the best with writing. I'm glad you have such a strong opinion on this matter despite having absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Lemme explain, since you don't quite understand the situation. You can't directly beam to your own ship from another person's ship, so you have to beam down to the planet they're orbiting, then beam up to your ship, that takes over 10 seconds at the very least and way longer if your computer isn't so great and even longer if the planet you beamed down to is a badly optimized world like many of the planets rights now.
