Pico projectors never really took off in the market despite the portability. The main reasons for that could be the fact that they usually required a separate power adapter and a D-sub cable to be carried along (defeating the portability) and that brightness was never very high. Acer's C110 LED projector addresses these issues and is priced very competitively too. The C110 is about as large as a portable — thicker at 1-inch but also lighter, at a mere 175g.
It is very easy to carry in a laptop bag or even in your coat pocket. A small issue is the glossy black finish that attracts fingerprints and dust.
For connectivity, you'll see a single USB port and nothing else — all around the sides are heat vents to keep the projector cool. On the front left side is the lens opening through which the lens is clearly visible, however Acer has not included any lens cover on the device. Due to this the lens tends to attract dust particles very quickly. On the right side, the focusing ring feels a bit fragile. There is no way to zoom or change image size.
At the bottom is a standard tripod socket and a small pull out stand that can raise the height by about a centimeter when kept on a table. There are no buttons present on the projector, neither is there a remote available to adjust anything — this keeps things simple and makes setting up the projector a breeze. As mentioned above, there is just one USB port on the back and nothing else. There are no docks or extenders involved here, this projector powers up and projects using your Windows desktop/laptop's USB ports (No MAC support as of now).

It comes with a cable that connects the projector with a computer using one or two USB ports depending upon availability. On first connection, it asks you to install the Acer DisplayPal software (automatic installation ). The software then asks you to select if you are using one USB port or two USB ports to power the projector — this determines the maximum brightness of the projector. The DisplayPal application gives you the option of setting up a 1:1 display, mirrored display or extended display from your computer.
There is also a slider to choose the power mode between low, medium, high and turbo — which adjusts the brightness accordingly. Native resolution is WVGA (854 x 480 pixel ), but the device supports a video signal up to 1280 x 800 pixels. The widescreen output is perfect for presentations and even watching videos. It has to be said that compared to the usual pico projectors, the brightness of this device will easily blow you away. A contrast ratio of 1000:1 makes sure that the projector is good enough to use in medium size rooms. At full brightness (turbo mode), the projector shows crisp details with natural colours. Black levels were a bit of an issue at times with moving images, but considering the size, weight and price of this projector, this is easily forgivable.
The only current issue is that there are no drivers available for Mac OS X. Also, the plastic body feels vulnerable to damage with drops and accidental bumps. Acer claims that the projector LED has a life of 20,000 hours, which is way more than the 3,000 odd hours that you get with a regular projector. If you are looking for a portable projector to carry around without lugging extra cables, then give the C110 a look. Acer also offers a 25-inch portable projection screen for an additional 2,500. The screen improves quality of projection and can be used in rooms which have a high amount of ambient lighting.
